Where do Estonians' teeth disappear?

The teeth of Estonians do not suddenly change anymore, but rather imperceptibly over the years.

At first, there is no pain. A small damage occurs. A filling is done. After a while, a new filling. Then root canal treatment. And at some point, the tooth is lost. This is not a coincidence, but a process that could have been noticed and stopped earlier.

The biggest problem is not that we don’t have enough dentists or technology. The problem is that we get to the doctor too late and focus on fixing the consequences rather than understanding the causes.

Caries can be treated, but the causes of its formation, diet, oral hygiene, level of inflammation, and overall health remain the same. Thus, the same pattern repeats again and again, each time in a slightly more severe form.

Oral health is not separate; it is closely linked to the body as a whole. Chronic inflammation, a diet rich in sugar, stress, and, for example, a deficiency in vitamin D and omega-3 directly affect how well the body can maintain teeth and gums. If the body does not recover, the mouth will not recover either.

That is why tooth loss does not actually start with the tooth. It starts with awareness or the lack thereof.

The good news is that this process can be changed. Often, it is enough to notice it earlier and take simple, yet consistent steps:

1. regular check-ups even when there are no complaints

2. conscious and thorough oral hygiene

3. cleaning between the teeth

4. reducing sugar intake

5. monitoring your health indicators.

The most important question anyone could ask themselves is not “how to fix this?”, but “why did this problem occur in the first place?”

Teeth do not disappear by chance. They disappear as a result of small steps, but the same logic works in reverse. Small changes made at the right time can break this chain.

If you feel that this topic concerns you or your loved ones, it is worth looking at the situation as a whole and a little earlier than the problem indicates itself.
